Are horizontal stripes a good idea on wide people?

The fabric is gorgeous; so soft. The length is perfect. The fit (XS) is perfect. BUT....it could just be a bit too much black for me personally AND/OR those horizontal stripes are just not flattering on someone less than skinny. At this price of $35 it is not worth returning. I will try a nice red scarf or junky jewellery. Otherwise a comfortable dress to clean the house in and lounge around by myself at night.
